History and the Future When The Present is Tough

Thursday, August 15, 2013
This past week I had the chance to go to Chicago and be with a group of church planters and leaders. A special treat was getting to go to a baseball game at Wrigley Field, the oldest major league ballpark. Here was my view:

The cool thing about Wrigley  is that they've tried to keep the experience as much like going to a game one hundred years ago as possible. There' no Jumbotron, no booming cannons, no mascots tearing around the field chasing each other.

Now, check this. My second favorite is AT&T Field in San Fransisco:

Stunning views of the water, all the bells and whistles, a technological marvel.

I love'em both.

See, even if your present is challenging there are beautiful things in the past to draw on and you can trust that God will give you an amazing future. That goes for people AND churches! And it is especially helpful to remember in times of big-time change.

"For I know the plans I have for you", declares the Lord. "Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future" - Jeremiah 29:11
