Marriage Myths

What an incredible day at Next Level. From a packed, expectant house on Sunday morning to almost 1,000 people on campus for Trunk or Treat, it was an over the top day. So excited to kick off Fireproof: Five Weeks to a Stronger Marriage. Here's a recap of the teaching on Marriage Myths:

MYTH 1: Marriage is supposed to make me happy
TRUTH: Marriage is supposed to make me HOLY (Ephesians 5:21-22)
God uses marriage to make us more like Christ and to demonstrate the nature of his love to the world. Happiness comes, but as a byproduct, not the main goal.

MYTH 2: I chose the wrong partner, so I should get out.
TRUTH: If you are married, your partner is the right one! (Proverbs 5:18)
God is up to bigger things in your marriage than you can begin to imagine!

MYTH 3: I need to "try before I buy" to insure sexual compatibility
TRUTH: Sex is an incredible gift that is intended to come AFTER a couple becomes one through the commitment of marriage (Genesis 2:23-24)

MYTH 4: If I marry someone I can change them.
TRUTH: You can never count on your partner changing, but you can count on the fact that God wants to change YOU! (Psalm 51:10)

MYTH 5: Marriage makes everything better
TRUTH: Marriage makes everything harder, but it is an incredible opportunity for spiritual growth.

The rest of Fireproof is devoted to showing you how that spiritual growth opportunity plays out!
