Digging Deeper: Psalm 51

Monday, April 11, 2011
We have a strong commitment to simplicity at Next Level Church. At sometimes what that means is that we have some really cool content that ends up on the cutting room floor for the sake of clarity. Yesterday was one of those days...

If you heard the message you might have thought to yourself, "How did Jared get insight into what David was thinking and feeling?" Well, I'll give you a hint. It was NOT because I'm a sensitive person. Truth be told I have the emotional intelligence of a pet rock. No, it is the Bible itself that tells us.

Psalm 51 is a song that David wrote right from the depth of his struggles with his sin with Bathsheba. Here is how it starts:

Have mercy on me, O God,
according to your unfailing love;
according to your great compassion
blot out my transgressions.
Wash away all my iniquity
and cleanse me from my sin.

For I know my transgressions,
and my sin is always before me.
Against you, you only, have I sinned
and done what is evil in your sight;
so you are right in your verdict
and justified when you judge.

It is beautiful and tragic all at the same time. My challenge for you today is to spend a moment and look up Psalm 51 in your Bible and read the rest of it. I hope it speaks to you as profoundly as it did to me. And let it be an encouragement to you to know that God's mercy is given according to his unfailing love. And there was no display of love that has ever been or will ever be as powerful as the Cross.

Then when you do, post your response on the Next Level Church Facebook page.

And make sure you're a friend with me on fb if your not already...
