The Benefits of Criticism

"Whoever stubbornly refuses to accept criticism will suddenly be destroyed beyond recovery" - Proverbs 29:1

That's pretty blunt, isn't it?

Make a habit of refusing to accept good criticism and you will ruin your life.

Hard truth. But worth pondering.

When I stubbornly refuse to accept criticism I refuse to:
-acknowledge my blind spots
-admit that I may be missing the point
-accept that my perspective may have me seeing only half of the truth

Life a life characterized by not knowing myself, playing off of the wrong sheet of music, and seeing only half of what's there and I am not living much of a life.

Become an older person characterized by this life strategy and I am a ruin and I have probably left a few human ruins in my wake.

Not all criticism is valid. Some of it may be mean-spirited or come from insincere or insecure motives.

But the life skill of learning to discern when criticism is on point and then accepting and acting on that discernment is one of the single biggest keys to success.
