I Keep My Youngest Son In A Box

Wednesday, April 17, 2013
I keep my almost-two year old in a box.

Here's proof:

Well, not really.

But those of us who are parents (and even those of us who are not) have a tendency to want our loved ones to be, say, and do exactly the right things.

And that has more to do with us than with them.

You know, the best thing in the world is to be loved as you are, not as someone wishes you would be.

It's hard to love that way.

The great writer Brennan Manning, who died last week (and whom I will probably be quoting a ton in this blog in days to come) was famous for saying this: "Jesus loves you as you are, not as you should be".

Wrap your mind and heart around that and you will be an entirely new person.

"It is for freedom that Christ has set us free" - Galatians 5:1

Where are you in a box....and where might you be keeping others in a box?
