Seeking God

Wednesday, December 14, 2011
When you are seeking to do what God wants you to do (obedience), and you are seeking to be who he wants you to be (holiness), and you are loving others as yourself (the greatest commandment), then regardless of what you gain or lose in life you can be assured that God is bringing you through it because of your obedience, for your holiness, to free you up to love well.

There are all sorts of things in life that you can pursue but never attain. God desires to be found.
Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.  For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. - Matthew 7
God is there to be found by those who seek. But. When we seek him on our own terms for our own purposes what we will find will not be God. It will be a god we have made who makes us happy and always agrees with us.

So when you look for God, look for one who is different than you. Expect that he will contradict you. Expect that he will shock you with his otherness, yet surprise you with his closeness. And if you humble yourself enough to actually find him, you might discover that he gives freedom on his own terms.

We can't find freedom because we want to play around with the things which have enslaved us.  We just want slightly less of our slave master so that life is not so uncomfortable. But God rips those things out of our life which we have asked and allowed to control us, and he replaces them with himself.
