Dispatch from a Sunday Sleestack [Todd]

Monday, March 09, 2009
Had a blast opening FEAR(LESS) yesterday. And you guys were amazing - in spite of the awful time change we had more people in one of our services for a non-Easter Sunday than any other service ever...way to show up when it was tempting to roll over and knock the alarm clock over!

First, to be clear. It was not intended for the smoke machine to still be going when I stood up to speak. That was for the guys in the band, all of whom are younger - at least the guitar players - and look better enshrouded in smoke than I do.

I felt like a Sleestack from "Land of the Lost" for a moment...or maybe like some detective from a film noir movie..."It was dark. And raining. I stood under the streetlight hunched inside my raincoat waiting for the client to show up. She was a tough broad, that's for sure".

Anyway...

We led off FEAR(LESS) by talking about how to be fearless in the face of financial crisis and stress.

About the difference between the human economy (based in fear and fueled by greed) and God's economy (based in generosity and fueled by joy).

About the metaphysics of french fries and Krispy Kreme glazed.

As an aside, ever notice how much Dirk Nowitzki of the Dallas Mavericks looks like a Sleestack?

We focused on this Big Idea: "Be generous to be like God and to get joy".

And issued these three challenges to each other:

1. FInd some creative way to be generous to someone this week, like God is all the time.
2. Pray as often as you think of it "Lord, make me generous like you".
3. Reflect on 2 Cor 9:8 as often as possible this week. "And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others".

Just a Monday reminder. Time for me to slink back into the misty woods and find Will, Holly, and Rick.

Or leave this rainy dump of a town and find another dame who won't break my crusty old detective's heart...
